The primary mission of the Voyager space crafts was to study Jupiter and Saturn which they did with much success, including discovering that lo, Jupiter’s innermost Galilean moon, has active volcanoes and that Saturn’s rings contained trillions of ice particles. Due to such success, the mission was extended, with Voyager 2 going on to explore Uranus and Neptune. To date, it is the only spacecraft to ever have visited these outer planets.
